Planning Department

Role & Responsibilities

The Planning Department is responsible for protecting King Williams natural resources and quality of life through developing and recommending growth management strategies and encouraging community growth through sound land use development practices.

This department is responsible for long-range planning for land use and transportation and for reviewing and updating the Countys Comprehensive Plan, Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances. The Planning Department is also responsible for processing and reviewing land disturbance and zoning permits, rezoning, conditional use and special exception requests, plans of development, subdivision proposals and erosion and sediment control for the County. Planning staff also provides support to the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and the Historic Preservation and Architectural Review Board on matters involving long-range planning and development review policy.

Office Hours

The Planning Department is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. excluding holidays.
