Did you know that private water supplies like wells and springs are unregulated? It is the responsibility of the homeowner to regularly test water quality, maintain the water system, and address any problems.  Affordable, confidential water testing and education will be offered through the King William and King & Queen Virginia Cooperative Extension offices.  Receive your kit and sample collection instructions at a Kickoff Meeting on July 23th at 6pm at the King William Administration Office, and plan to return your samples between 8 and 10 am on July 25th.  Participation is voluntary and confidential.  Your water sample will be analyzed for 14 parameters: iron, manganese, nitrate, lead, arsenic, fluoride, sulfate, pH, total dissolved solids, hardness, sodium, copper, total coliform bacteria and E. Coli bacteria.  Analysis is done by Virginia Tech’s cost recovery lab for a discounted fee of $55, payable by check at the Kickoff Meeting.  Information on how to interpret your results and maintain your water system will be shared at an additional meeting on August 29th. All information is kept strictly confidential and results are reported only to the homeowner.  Please pre-register online at https://king-william.ext.vt.edu/, or by calling 804-679-4955.  For more information about the Virginia Household Water Quality Program, as well as many resources relevant to private water systems, please visit www.wellwater.bse.vt.edu.
