The Sheriff, who in King William is the primary law enforcement official in the County, is elected to a 4-year term. Under the direction of Sheriff J.S. "Jeff" Walton, the King William County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for all law enforcement efforts in the County and handles dispatching services for the Fire and Rescue Squads and the Department of Animal Control.
The responsibilities of the Office also include:

Criminal investigation
Security when court is in session
Traffic control for school buses leaving the King William County schools
Traffic enforcement to help keep the roads safe
The Sheriff’s Office has 20 law enforcement deputies, one full-time and one part-time civil process server, eleven dispatchers, one records manager and one administrative assistant. The office has three deputies who handle investigations and narcotics enforcement.
