Local Board of Building Code Appeals

The King William County Local Board of Business code Appeals (LBBCA) is formed in accordance with Section 36-105 of the Code of Virginia and Section 119 of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) to hear appeals by any person aggrieved by the King William County Building Department's application of the USBC or refusal to grant a modification of the provisions of the USBC who has submitted a written request for appeal in accordance with Section 119.5 of the USBC and King William County Code Section 14-207.


  • The LBBCA shall meet as necessary to assure a duly constituted board, appoint officers as necessary, and receive such training on the code as may be appropriate or necessary from County staff.


  • Appointed by the King William County Board of Supervisors based on their ability to render fair and competent decisions regarding application of the USBC.
  • To the extent possible, represent different occupational or professional fields relating to the construction industry with at least one member who is: an experienced builder, a Registered Design Professional (RDP), and an experienced property manager. 
  • Five members - alternates may also be appointed to serve in the absence of any regular members and as such, have the full power and authority of regular members.
  • Cannot be County employees or officials.
  • Five-year staggered terms.
